Neuromotor Immaturity in Children and Adults
Screening, Assessment and Intervention using The INPP Method. Theory and Practice. An Historical Overview.

Absract
Neuromotor maturity provides one indication of maturity in the functioning of the central nervous system. It is also linked to functioning of the vestibular, proprioceptive and postural systems, which together provide a stable platform for centres involved in oculo-motor functioning and perceptual coherence, particularly visual perception. Individuals with neuromotor immaturity (NMI) frequently experience difficulties with related functions including: balance, coordination and visual perception and can go on to suffer from somatic and secondary psychological symptoms, which include educational under-achievement in children, and stress and anxiety in adults. The assessment of neuromotor functioning can help to identify key factors, which may underlie specific learning difficulties, educational under-achievement and vulnerabilty to stress.
